Free your Mind… And your Life Will Follow!

Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something, what you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You have felt it for as long as you can remember… that there is something wrong with your world (not the world). You don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like smoke and mirrors imprisoning your mind. Unfortunately, no-one can be told what this prison is. You have to see it for yourself. Free your mind… and your life will follow!

My name is Ben and I work as a Mental Health Occupational Therapist in the NHS, but due to the growing need for mental health services, I have set up my own private practice. I specialise in combining Occupational Therapy with skills in Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Polyvagal approaches.

Using a combination of Occupational Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy, allows you to ‘defuse’ from limiting beliefs in your identity, giving the the power to choose more empowering roles for yourself. The will lead to better habits and routines, cascading to improve your mental and physical health and give you a more positive perception of your environment, full of hope and possibility!

Mirror Mind Therapy asserts that fear and judgment present a direct reflection of where you still have space to love and accept yourself. Whenever you experience mental suffering, mental freedom is there, waiting on the other side. But, until you can defuse from the unconscious, limiting beliefs that you have bound to your identity, these limiting beliefs will dictate your life and you will call it fate. However, when they are brought into conscious awareness, defusing from them is as simple as looking in the mirror and realising, you’re not the reflection. Mirror Mind Therapy uses clinically proven therapeutic techniques (Occupational Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, motivational interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) to bring your unconscious beliefs into your conscious awareness, defuse them from your identity and dissolve your mental constraints. The only question is, are you ready to free your mind?

My Therapy & Services

1 Hour 1-1 Talking Therapy (£70pp)

These 10-12 sessions are designed to help you build confidence and self-esteem. Using a variety of effective OT and ACT interventions to help you start living a meaningful life in accordance with your values. These come with a completely free 1 hour Initial consultation.

1 Hour Group Mindfulness and Embodiment Therapy (£15pp)

One of the biggest hallmarks of developing self-esteem and confidence is learning to relax in uncomfortable situations while owning who you are. My Mindfulness meditations incorporate CBT and ACT techniques that gradually teach you the skill to relax your body and free you mind, even when feeling stressed.

I also look at developing interoception, giving us greater awareness of the physical and emotional signals inside our body, greatly reducing emotional dysregulation and giving us the power to start taking ownership of our actions and accepting ourselves.

Interactive group workshop for stress management (£200)

To truly live our lives to the fullest stress is unavoidable, particularly in productive environments such as schools, universities and the workplace. Through teaching practical ACT skills I look at changing your relationship to stress, so you can act with courage, compassion and acceptance in the face of stressful circumstances.

I also teach OT skills to look at how we can adapt our working environments and alter our habits to prevent burnout and bring higher levels of meaningful engagement to any productive environment.

I’m Ben, qualified Occupational Therapist, specialising in Acceptance, Commitment Therapy Interventions.

Background

I have a background as a hypnotherapist and councillor which I practiced as part time after receiving my BSc in Psychology. After receiving my MSc in Occupational Therapy, I dropped hypnotherapy and focused on mindfulness, and psychotherapy-based approaches which my clients could utilise and integrate into their day to day routine. Throughout my NHS career I have studied CBT, DBT and ACT psychotherapy approaches. I have now fully specialised in ACT based interventions due to how ACT mirrors the foundations of Occupational Therapy, and enhances it by providing evidence based interventions to defuse from challenging thoughts and emotions in order to take the necessary actions to live a more enriched and meaningful life!

The Stories we Tell Ourselves…

“We are all trapped inside our own heads, and our ideas and beliefs about the world are limited by that perspective… which means we tell ourselves stories about how we relate to the world around us… and we all get it wrong.”

Compensating is a Cycle

‘We build our own prisons. Bars forged of roles, compensations and control. Walls of self-doubt and subconscious limitations. We inhabit these prisons, these roles, and call them “us”. The environment will give us a clear reflection of where our personal causation has been wounded and where we need to heal. However, if we are unable to diffuse our personal causation from the role/story we identified it with (I’m not good enough, I’m not safe, I’m not loved, I am bad), we will continue to attempt to ‘fix’ our mental health by external means instead and neglect our personal causation completely (because we believe it is “us” not a story that we just told ourselves). This creates a cycle which leads to more and more extreme coping mechanisms, disease and triggers in the environment, while never addressing the root cause of the issue.

Breaking free

By the time we become diagnosed with a mental health disorder, we have been trapped in this role/story for so long we have mistaken it for the truth, just as if you were born inside a prison that you cannot see, smell, taste or touch. A prison for your mind. But, if you are able to see that it is just a story you assigned to yourself and not a truth, you can defuse your personal causation from the role you attached to it. In doing so you make space from within to love and accept the parts of you, that you mistakenly thought were broken… and your personal causation will be allowed to heal, giving you a sense of mental freedom like nothing you have ever felt before. But, ‘until you make these unconscious roles conscious, they will dictate your life, and you will call it fate’. However, when they are conscious, defusing from them is as simple as looking in the mirror and realising, you’re not the reflection.

The Final Evolution

When we defuse a confining role from our personal causation, this creates a split in our constrained identity. This split creates space (self-compassion), freedom (self-love) and energy (self-esteem)… a lot of energy. With this energy we are free to choose more positive roles and stories about ourselves. This has a positive spiral on our habits and routines. As a result, our physical, mental and emotional health in then free to improve. This gives us a new and more intimate relationship with our environment/reality. Our more peaceful and brighter world creates more opportunity for our personal causation to split from another constraining narrative, creating yet more energy to repeat the cycle. This continues in an infinite loop.

Who this therapy is (and isn’t) for

In Mirror Mind Therapy I have concessions as to who I can work with. Firstly, I regret to say due to conflict of interest if you are of a community mental health team within the NHS then I am unable to see you. Also due to similar conflicts of interests due to the work I am already doing in the NHS I cannot see anyone who is currently suicidal or engaging in self-harming behaviours. I also do not specialise in eating disorders, psychotic disorders (including type 1 bipolar) or learning disabilities such as Autism or ADHD. I also believe that therapeutic rapport is one of the most important elements to effective change, more so than any therapeutic intervention. Due to this I offer a free initial consultation session to ensure an appropriate triage and establish an effective working relationship with you.

Confidentiality

Keeping in line with the ethics and code of practice of RCOT, HCPC and NICE guidelines that I utilise within the NHS, the confidentiality of information sharing within 1-1’s, groups and potentially public exposure therapy sessions is of up most importance. All participants will be given a consent and service agreement form to sign on first session (weather that is 1-1 or group), ensuring that they understand the rules, limits and regulations of the service and all their shared information will be 100% confidential.

Ben has seriously helped me to change my life and truly master and free my mind. Without his help I'd be in a whole different place - I'm very grateful for everything.

The skills and techniques I’ve learnt from Ben have made managing my mental health is too easy

I want to share this with the world! Every mental health practitioner needs to know this technique!

I’ve been introduced to a new world of love and freedom. I am a completely different person. Ben has helped me uncover confidence I myself I didn’t know I had.
